Self-Diagnostic System: Notes

NOTE: Self-diagnostic tests are written specifically for Chrysler's Diagnostic Readout Box (DRB). A generic scan tool may not be capable of performing all necessary test functions.

Bendix-4 Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) is controlled and monitored by Controller Anti-Lock Brake (CAB). In addition to controlling ABS, CAB has several useful diagnostic capabilities.

Trouble codes are stored in memory until erased by a technician using scan tool or until erased automatically after 50 ignition cycles. Only code which is not erased after 50 ignition cycles is a CAB fault. CAB fault can only be erased using scan tool.

More than one trouble code can be stored at a time. Number of trouble codes stored is displayed by scan tool. Number of ignition cycles since most recent code was stored is also displayed.

Using scan tool, most functions of CAB and ABS can be accessed by technician for testing and diagnostic purposes.
