Test 1A - System Function

NOTE: Perform visual inspection before proceeding with this test.
  1. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC), located behind fuse access cover. See Fig 1 . Using scan tool, select module THEFT ALARM. If scan tool screen is blank or displays a bus failure message, see TESTS W/CODES - BODY CONTROL COMPUTER article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE section. If scan tool displays NO RESPONSE, go to TEST 1B. If scan tool does not display NO RESPONSE, ensure both doors and hood are closed. Go to next step.
  2. Using scan tool, select THEFT ALARM and MONITOR DISPLAY. Read VTSS status. If VTSS status is DISARMED, perform TEST 15A. If VTSS status is not DISARMED, go to next step.
  3. Using scan tool, select THEFT ALARM, MISCELLANEOUS, CHANGE MODE, and DIAGNOSTICS. If scan tool does not display TURN KEY TO ACC POSITION, go to TEST 2A. If scan tool displays TURN KEY TO ACC POSITION, turn ignition switch to ACC position and go to next step.
  4. If scan tool displays NO RESPONSE after turning switch to ACC, go to TEST 3A. If diagnostics mode is entered, horn will sound 2 times, and parking and VTSS indicator lights will flash. If horn does not sound, go to TEST 4A. If horn sounds, go to next step.
  5. If VTSS indicator light does not flash, go to TEST 5A. If VTSS indicator light flashes, check parking lights. If parking lights do not flash, go to TEST 6A. If parking lights flash, go to next step.
  6. Remove key from ignition. Open and close left door. If horn does not sound, go to TEST 7A. If horn sounds, open and close right door. If horn does not sound, go to TEST 8A. If horn sounds, go to next step.
  7. Open and close hood. If horn does not sound, go to TEST 9A. If horn sounds, depress power door lock switch to LOCK position. If horn does not sound, go to TEST 10A. If horn sounds, go to next step.
  8. Set power door lock switch to UNLOCK position. If horn does not sound, go to TEST 11A. If horn sounds, rotate key in left door to unlock door. If horn does not sound, go to TEST 12A. If horn sounds, go to next step.
  9. Rotate key in right door to unlock door. If horn does not sound, go to TEST 13A. If horn sounds, turn ignition switch to ON position. If horn does not sound, go to TEST 14A. If horn sounds, go to next step.
  10. Using scan tool, select THEFT ALARM and MONITOR DISPLAY. Read VTSS status. If VTSS status is other than DISARMED, go to TEST 15A. If VTSS status is DISARMED, system is okay. If scan tool shows engine controller 1 NO RESPONSE/2 NO RESPONSE, go to TEST 16A. If scan tool does not show engine controller 1 NO RESPONSE/2 NO RESPONSE, go to next step.
  11. If scan tool shows engine controller 1 NOT OK TO ARM VTSS/2 OK TO RUN ENG, 20 engine starts must be reached before VTSS becomes operational. If VTSS indicator light flashes constantly with ignition on, go to TEST 17A. If there is a problem with RKE arm/disarm function or with panic mode function, go to TEST 18A.
