Excess Decay

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION. For wiring diagram, see wiring diagram.
NOTE: If any trouble codes for wheel speed sensor or modulator circuit are present, repair them prior to performing this test.
  1. If road or weather conditions were bad or tires are excessively worn, erase trouble codes. Perform TEST VER-1A. If driving conditions and tires are okay, depress and hold brake pedal. Using scan tool, actuate left front solenoid. If brake pedal does not drop when solenoid actuates, replace Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU). Perform TEST VER-1A. If brake pedal drops when solenoid actuates, go to next step.
  2. Depress and hold brake pedal. Using scan tool, actuate left front hydraulic. If brake pedal does not raise when hydraulic actuates, replace Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU). Perform TEST VER-1A. If brake pedal raises when hydraulic actuates, go to next step.
  3. Depress and hold brake pedal. Using scan tool, actuate right front solenoid. If brake pedal does not drop when solenoid actuates, replace Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU). Perform TEST VER-1A. If brake pedal drops when solenoid actuates, go to next step.
  4. Depress and hold brake pedal. Using scan tool, actuate right front hydraulic. If brake pedal does not raise when hydraulic actuates, replace Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU). Perform TEST VER-1A. If brake pedal raises when hydraulic actuates, go to next step.
  5. Depress and hold brake pedal. Using scan tool, actuate left rear solenoid. If brake pedal does not drop when solenoid actuates, replace Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU). Perform TEST VER-1A. If brake pedal drops when solenoid actuates, go to next step.
  6. Depress and hold brake pedal. Using scan tool, actuate left rear hydraulic. If brake pedal does not raise when hydraulic actuates, replace Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU). Perform TEST VER-1A. If brake pedal raises when hydraulic actuates, go to next step.
  7. Depress and hold brake pedal. Using scan tool, actuate right rear solenoid. If brake pedal does not drop when solenoid actuates, replace Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU). Perform TEST VER-1A. If brake pedal drops when solenoid actuates, go to next step.
  8. Depress and hold brake pedal. Using scan tool, actuate right rear hydraulic. If brake pedal does not raise when hydraulic actuates, replace Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU). Perform TEST VER-1A. If brake pedal raises when hydraulic actuates, go to next step.
  9. Stop actuator test. Using scan tool, read status of wheel speed sensors. With an assistant, road test vehicle while monitoring status of wheel speed sensors with scan tool. If wheel speed signals are okay, system is operating properly at this time. Erase trouble codes. Perform TEST VER-2A. If any signal is erratic or missing, go to next step.
  10. Raise vehicle on hoist. Inspect tone wheel of speed sensor displaying faulty signal. If tone wheel is damaged, replace tone wheel. Perform TEST VER-1A. If tone wheel is okay, go to next step.
  11. Inspect tire condition at faulty speed sensor, and repair as necessary. Perform TEST VER-1A. If tire is okay, inspect wheel bearings and suspension for excess play or runout. Repair as necessary. Perform TEST VER-1A. If bearings and suspension components are okay, replace wheel speed sensor. Perform TEST VER-1A.
