TEST 55B - Diagnosing Compass/Temperature Module Blank Display

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION in this article. For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS at the end of this article. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1 after each repair.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
  1. Turn ignition switch to ON position, engine off. If compass/temperature screen is blank, press compass/temperature button once. If compass/temperature screen is not blank, system is okay at this time. If compass/temperature screen is blank, go to next step.
  2. Gain access to compass/temperature module connector, located behind overhead console. Disconnect compass/temperature module connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Put DRB-II in voltmeter mode. Measure voltage at compass/temperature module connector terminal No. 4 (White wire). If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to step 4). If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Put DRB-II in ohmmeter mode. Measure resistance at compass/temperature module connector terminal No. 5 (Black/Light Green wire). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair Black/Light Green wire between compass/temperature module and ground for open to ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace compass/temperature module.
  4. If fuse No. 5 is open, go to next step. See Figure . If fuse No. 5 is okay, put DRB-II in voltmeter mode. Probe fuse No. 5 ignition feed circuit (Black/Orange wire). If voltage is more than 10 volts, repair open in fused ignition feed circuit (White wire). If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open in Black/Orange wire.
  5. If fuse No. 5 is open in step 4), turn ignition off. Put DRB-II in ohmmeter mode. Measure resistance at compass/temperature module connector fused ignition feed circuit (White wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair White wire between compass/temperature module connector and fuse No. 5 for short to ground, and replace fuse. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace compass/temperature module and replace fuse.
