TEST 55B - Diagnosing Compass/Temperature Module Blank Display
NOTE:
For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION in this article. For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS at the end of this article. Perform VERIFICATION PROCEDURE VER-1 after each repair.
CAUTION:
Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
- Turn ignition switch to ON position, engine off. If compass/temperature screen is blank, press compass/temperature button once. If compass/temperature screen is not blank, system is okay at this time. If compass/temperature screen is blank, go to next step.
- Gain access to compass/temperature module connector, located behind overhead console. Disconnect compass/temperature module connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Put DRB-II in voltmeter mode. Measure voltage at compass/temperature module connector terminal No. 4 (White wire). If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to step 4). If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Put DRB-II in ohmmeter mode. Measure resistance at compass/temperature module connector terminal No. 5 (Black/Light Green wire). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair Black/Light Green wire between compass/temperature module and ground for open to ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace compass/temperature module.
- If fuse No. 5 is open, go to next step. See Figure . If fuse No. 5 is okay, put DRB-II in voltmeter mode. Probe fuse No. 5 ignition feed circuit (Black/Orange wire). If voltage is more than 10 volts, repair open in fused ignition feed circuit (White wire). If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open in Black/Orange wire.
- If fuse No. 5 is open in step 4), turn ignition off. Put DRB-II in ohmmeter mode. Measure resistance at compass/temperature module connector fused ignition feed circuit (White wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair White wire between compass/temperature module connector and fuse No. 5 for short to ground, and replace fuse. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace compass/temperature module and replace fuse.
