TEST 49A - Fuel Level Sensor Circuit

  1. Using DRB-II, stop electronic instrument cluster sequential segment test. Disconnect fuel level sensor connector. See Fig 1. Check connector condition, and clean or repair connector as necessary. Using DRB-II, read fuel level sensor voltage. If DRB-II displays more than 8 volts, go to step 5). If DRB-II displays less than 8 volts, go to next step.

  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect both body controller connectors. Body controller is located behind right front kick panel. Check condition of connectors, and clean or repair connectors as necessary. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Put DRB-II in voltmeter mode.
  3. Probe terminal No. 18 (Dark Blue/White wire) of body controller Red connector. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open Dark Blue/White wire. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1 . If voltage is more than 10 volts, turn ignition switch to OFF position. Put DRB-II in ohmmeter mode.
  4. Probe terminal No. 18 (Dark Blue wire) of body controller Black connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Dark Blue wire. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1 . If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace body controller. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1 .
  5. If DRB-II displays more than 8 volts in step 1), connect a jumper wire between Black/Light Green wire and Dark Blue wire of fuel level sensor connector. If DRB-II displays 0.0 VOLTS, replace fuel level sensor. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1 .
  6. If DRB-II does not display 0.0 VOLTS, disconnect jumper wire. Connect jumper wire between Dark Blue wire of fuel level sensor connector and ground. If DRB-II displays 0.0 VOLTS, repair open Black/Light Green wire between ground and fuel level sensor connector. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1 .
  7. If DRB-II does not display 0.0 VOLTS, disconnect jumper wire. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect body controller Black connector. Body controller is located behind right side kick panel. Check connector condition, and clean or repair connector as necessary. Reconnect body controller Black connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position.
  8. Connect a jumper wire between terminal No. 18 (Dark Blue wire) at wiring harness side of body controller Black connector and ground. If DRB-II displays 0.0 VOLTS, repair open Dark Blue wire. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1 . If DRB-II does not display 0.0 VOLTS, replace body controller. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1 .
