Bleeding Modulator Assembly
CAUTION:
Ensure manual or pressure bleeding procedure is performed before bleeding modulator assembly.
- Remove battery, battery tray and acid shield. Connect battery to vehicle using jumper cables. This allows access to 4 bleed screws located on top of modulator assembly.
- Ensure all fluid lines are installed and correctly torqued. Bleed base brake system using standard pressure or manual procedures.
- Connect DRB-II to diagnostic connector CCD BUS (Blue 6-pin connector), located behind fuse panel access cover on lower section of dash panel, left of steering column. See Fig 1 and Figure .
- Using DRB-II, ensure CAB has no fault messages stored. If fault messages are stored, remove them using DRB-II.
NOTE: If system is pressure bled, use only diaphragm-type equipment to prevent air, moisture and other contaminants from entering system.WARNING: When bleeding modulator assembly, wear safety glasses. Attach bleed tube to bleed screws to direct fluid away from painted surfaces. High-pressure brake fluid comes out when bleed screws are opened.
- Install bleeder tube on secondary sump bleed screw. See Fig 2 . Using a pressure bleeder, or with an assistant applying light constant pressure on brake pedal, loosen secondary sump bleed screw. Using DRB-II, select Actuate Valves test mode and actuate LF Build/Decay Valve. Bleed until clear, air-free fluid comes out of secondary sump bleed screw, or until brake pedal bottoms.
- Tighten bleed screw and release brake pedal. If pedal pressure is used, repeat bleeding procedure until clear, air-free fluid comes out of bleeder. With DRB-II, select and actuate RR Build/Decay Valve. Repeat bleeding procedure until clear, air-free fluid comes out of secondary sump bleed screw.
- Install the bleeder tube over primary sump bleed screw. See Fig 2 . Using DRB-II, select Actuate Valves test mode and actuate RF Build/Decay Valve. Using a pressure bleeder, or with an assistant applying light constant pressure on brake pedal, loosen primary sump bleed screw. Bleed until clear, air-free fluid comes out of primary sump bleed screw, or until brake pedal bottoms.
- Tighten bleed screw and release brake pedal. If pedal pressure is used, repeat bleeding procedure until clear, air-free fluid comes out of bleeder. With DRB-II, select and actuate LR Build/Decay Valve. Repeat bleeding procedure until clear, air-free fluid comes out of primary sump bleed screw.
- Install bleeder tube on primary accumulator bleed screw. See Fig 2 . Using DRB-II, select Actuate Valves test mode and actuate RF/LR Isolation Valve. Using a pressure bleeder, or with an assistant applying light constant pressure on brake pedal, loosen primary accumulator bleed screw. Bleed until clear, air-free fluid comes out of primary accumulator bleed screw, or until brake pedal bottoms.
- Tighten bleed screw and release brake pedal. If pedal pressure is used, repeat bleeding procedure until clear, air-free fluid comes out of bleeder. With DRB-II, select and actuate RF Build/Decay Valve. Repeat bleeding procedure until clear, air-free fluid comes out of primary accumulator bleed screw.
- Install bleeder tube on secondary accumulator bleed screw. See Fig 2 . Using DRB-II, select Actuate Valves test mode and actuate LF/RR Isolation Valve. Using a pressure bleeder, or with an assistant applying light constant pressure on brake pedal, loosen secondary accumulator bleed screw. Bleed until clear, air-free fluid comes out of secondary accumulator bleed screw or until brake pedal bottoms.
