Purge Solenoid
Purge solenoid is located in solenoid bank next to MAP sensor. If engine temperature is below 145°F (61°C), the SMEC energizes purge solenoid by providing ground circuit. This keeps vacuum from charcoal canister valve. When purge solenoid ground is removed, vacuum flows to canister purge valve and fuel vapors are removed through throttle body.
The purge solenoid is operated by the SMEC. When engine temperature is below 145°F (61°C) the SMEC closes the solenoid and prevents manifold vacuum or pressure from reaching EGR valve. When prescribed temperature is reached, the SMEC will de-energizing solenoid.
