Removal & Installation - A/T: Removal
- Disconnect battery ground cable. On 4WD models, remove transfer case shift lever knob, dust boot and retainer plate. Disconnect transmission throttle cable at throttle lever.
- Raise and support vehicle. Remove under carriage cover and/or skid plate. Drain transmission and transfer case (if applicable). Disconnect all external solenoids and switches at their connectors. On 4WD models, disconnect 4WD indicator lamp harness.
- On all models, disconnect speedometer cable, shift control cable or linkage and throttle control rod (if applicable). Remove wiring for starter motor and remove starter. Remove bellhousing cover. Index mark torque converter and drive plate and remove bolts attaching torque converter to drive plate.
- Remove exhaust pipe mounting bracket (where applicable). Disconnect transmission cooler lines and remove oil filler tube. Index mark and remove rear drive shaft. On 4WD models, also mark and remove front drive shaft.
- Secure a transmission jack under transmission/transfer case assembly and raise slightly to take weight off of mount. Remove crossmember-to-mount bolts and remove crossmember. Remove transfer case mounting bracket and mount.
- Ensure that transmission/transfer case has been securely mounted to jack. Remove remaining transmission-to-engine mounting bolts and lower assembly with jack.
