Testing (Without Tool C-3829-A)

  1. Using pair of needle nose pliers as a heat shield, unsolder stator too rectifier leads. Mark stator coil frame and rectifier end shield for alignment proposes. Remove alternator "BAT" terminal insulator nut and lockwasher.
  2. Remove insulator and washer. Remove 3 rectifier mounting screws. Remove rectifier assembly. Remove inner terminal insulator. Using an ohmmeter, check between rectifier pin and heat sink. If there is continuity in both directions, rectifier is shorted. If there is no continuity, rectifier is open. Needle should move in the same direction. Replace rectifier assembly if shorted or grounded.
