Turbocharger - Gasoline: Description

The turbocharging system is mounted on the right side of the 2.2L engine. It includes a turbine assembly, center housing rotating assembly (CHRA), compressor assembly, wastegate, and throttle body. The turbine is spun by a exhaust gas and causes compressor to draw air.

The throttle body is controlled by the ECM and various sensors, to provide the exact air/fuel mixture requirements. Maximum manifold pressure (boost) is controlled by an exhaust bypass valve called a wastegate. The wastegate valve senses pressure differences through a diaphragm type actuator to determine how much exhaust should be routed to turbine. Any excess exhaust gas is bypassed into exhaust system.
