Warm Dr11 - Spark Control System
- Tee a vacuum gauge into the distributor vacuum hose. Start engine. Vacuum should read zero. If vacuum is okay proceed to step 4). If vacuum is above zero but not equal to manifold vacuum, carburetor throttle plate is open too much. Check basic timing and/or idle speed. If vacuum gauge reads manifold vacuum, proceed to next step.
- With engine running, connect voltmeter as follows: Without oxygen feedback system, connect at Dark Green wire of speed sensor and ground. With oxygen feedback system, connect voltmeter to cavity No. 2 of ECU 7-way connector and ground. Voltmeter should read between zero and one volt. If voltage is okay, proceed to next step. If reading is one volt of battery voltage, replace speed sensor or ECU.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect 3-way solenoid connector. Connect ohmmeter between the Black wires of solenoid connector. Ohmmeter should show some resistance. Resistance is not important, just make sure there is some. If ohmmeter shows some resistance, repair wire to the speed switch or ECU for an open circuit. If ohmmeter reads open circuit, replace the solenoid.
- Tee vacuum gauge into distributor hose. Connect tachometer to engine. Raise engine speed to 2000 RPM. Vacuum gauge should read manifold vacuum. If vacuum is okay proceed to WARM DR12 for cars with A/C or WARM DR13 for cars not equipped with A/C. If vacuum is not okay, proceed to next test.

With oxygen feedback system, connect voltmeter to cavity No. 2 of ECU 7-way connector and ground. Raise engine speed to 2000 RPM. Voltmeter should read within one volt of battery voltage. If voltage is okay, check manifold vacuum supply to control solenoid. If okay, replace solenoid. If voltmeter reads zero to one volt, replace speed sensor or ECU. On vehicles without oxygen feedback system, if voltmeter reads 11 volts or less, replace diode between the Dark Blue/Orange wire and Dark Blue wire.
