Fuel System Testing

  1. Turn ignition off. Release fuel system pressure. Install Pressure Gauge (C-3292) in hose between fuel filter and throttle body. Turn ignition switch to "RUN" position. Press ATM button on readout box. Fuel pressure should be 34-38 psi (2.4-2.7 kg/cm2 ). If fuel pressure is okay, proceed to step 6).
  2. If fuel pressure is not to specification, press ATM button on readout box. Listen for in-tank fuel pump noise at rear of vehicle. You should be able to hear fuel pump operate. If fuel pump does not operate, proceed to step 4).
  3. If fuel pump does operate, check fuel supply tube and hoses for restrictions or leaks. Check fuel filter. If lines and/or filter are not okay, repair or replace as required. If fuel lines and filter are okay, remove in-tank fuel pump assembly and inspect filter. If filter is okay, replace in-tank fuel pump.
  4. Raise vehicle on a hoist. Disconnect in-tank fuel pump connector at fuel tank. Connect voltmeter to Dark Green/White wire and ground. Press ATM button on readout box. Voltmeter reading should be within one volt of battery voltage. If voltage reading is not okay, repair wire for an open circuit to wiring harness splice.
  5. If voltage reading is okay, turn ignition off. Connect ohmmeter to Gray wire in fuel pump connector and ground. Ohmmeter should show continuity. If there is continuity, replace in-tank fuel pump. If there is no continuity, repair Gray wire for an open circuit to body ground connection.
  6. With ignition off, disconnect 10-way connector from power module. Connect ohmmeter to 10-way connector cavities No. 4 and 5. Ohmmeter should show continuity. If there is no continuity, proceed to step 9). If there is continuity, disconnect connector from injector. Connect ohmmeter to 10-way connector cavity No. 4 and ground.
  7. Ohmmeter should not show continuity. If there is continuity, repair wire to 10-way connector cavity No. 4 for a short to ground. If there is no continuity, connect ohmmeter to 10-way connector cavity No. 5 and ground. Ohmmeter should not show continuity. If there is continuity, repair wire to 10-way connector cavity No. 5 for a short to ground and replace power module.
  8. If there was no continuity, connect ohmmeter to either injector terminal and ground. Ohmmeter should not show continuity. If there is no continuity, replace power module. If there is continuity, replace injector.
  9. Remove connector from injector. Connect ohmmeter between injector terminals. Ohmmeter should show continuity. If there is no continuity, replace injector. If there is continuity, connect ohmmeter to 10-way connector cavity No. 4 and Tan wire in injector connector. There should be continuity. If there is no continuity, repair wire in connector cavity No. 4 for an open circuit to injector connector.
  10. If there is continuity, connect ohmmeter to 10-way connector cavity No. 5 and White wire in injector connector. There should be continuity. If there is no continuity, repair wire in connector cavity No. 5 for an open circuit to injector connector. If there is continuity, inspect power module and injector wiring harness connectors for poor connections.
