Circuit/System Testing

NOTE:
  • Refer to SIR Service Precautions .
  • Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
  • Inspect all terminals for damage or corrosion when disconnecting connectors. Damage or corrosion in the following requires repair or replacement of the affected component/connector.
    • B153D Front Seat Belt Buckle - Driver
    • K36 Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module
  1. Ignition/Vehicle OFF.
  2. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
  3. Disconnect the harness connector at the B153D Front Seat Belt Buckle - Driver. It may take up to 2 min for all vehicle systems to power down.
  4. Test for less than 5 Ω between the low reference circuit terminal 2 and ground.
    • If 5 Ω or greater
    1. Ignition/Vehicle OFF.
    2. Verify the SIR system is disabled.
    3. Disconnect the harness connector at the K36 Restraints Control Module.
    4. Test for less than 2 Ω in the low reference circuit end to end.
      • If 2 Ω or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 Ω, replace the K36 Restraints Control Module.
    • Go to next step: If less than 5 Ω
  5. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
  6. Ignition/Vehicle ON.
  7. Buckle the B153D Front Seat Belt Buckle - Driver.
  8. Verify the scan tool Driver Seat Belt Sensor Signal status parameter displays Buckled.
    • If not Buckled
    1. Ignition/Vehicle OFF.
    2. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
    3. Disconnect the harness connector at the K36 Restraints Control Module.
    4. Test for infinite resistance between the signal circuit terminal 1 and ground.
      • If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground on the circuit.
      • If infinite resistance, replace the K36 Restraints Control Module.
    • Go to next step: If Buckled
  9. Ignition/Vehicle OFF.
  10. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
  11. Install a 3 A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal 1 and the low reference circuit terminal 2.
  12. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
  13. Ignition/Vehicle ON.
  14. Verify the appropriate scan tool Driver Seat Belt Sensor Signal status parameter is Unbuckled.
    • If not Unbuckled
    1. Ignition/Vehicle OFF.
    2. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
    3. Disconnect the harness connector at the K36 Restraints Control Module, Ignition/Vehicle ON.
    4. Test for less than 1 V between the signal circuit and ground.
      • If 1 V or greater, repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
      • Go to next step: If less than 1 V
    5. Test for less than 2 Ω in the signal circuit end to end.
      • If 2 Ω or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 Ω, replace the K36 Restraints Control Module.
    • Go to next step: If Unbuckled
  15. Test or replace the B153D Front Seat Belt buckle - Driver.
  16. Operate the vehicle within the conditions for running the DTC. Verify the DTC does not reset.
    • If the DTC resets, replace the P16 Instrument Panel Cluster Control Module.
    • Go to next step: If the DTC does not reset.
  17. All OK.
