Removal Procedure

  1. Disable the SIR system. SIR Disabling and Enabling
  2. Extend the steering column to its furthest point to allow the instrument panel steering column upper trim cover to clear the instrument panel.

    Using a small plastic trim tool, separate the instrument panel steering column upper trim cover (1) from the instrument panel steering column lower trim cover.

    Rotate the steering wheel left and right to access the instrument panel steering column lower trim cover bolts (1).

  6. Instrument Panel Steering Column Lower Trim Cover Bolt (1) - Remove [3x]
  7. Instrument Panel Steering Column Lower Trim Cover (2) - Remove

    NOTE:

    Left side shown, right side similar.

    Use a flat bladed plastic trim tool to depress the steering wheel airbag access hole cover detents to remove the 2 covers (1).

    Steering Wheel Airbag Bolt (1) - Remove [2x]

  10. Release the connector position assurance (CPA) retainer.
  11. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  12. Steering Wheel Airbag (2) - Remove
  13. Turn the steering wheel to the straight ahead position.

    Loosen the steering wheel bolt (1) so that 2 - 3 threads are engaged.

  15. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  16. Wiggle the steering wheel until the wheel disengages completely.
  17. Steering Wheel Bolt (1) - Remove
  18. Steering Wheel (2) - Remove

    Disconnect the electrical connector.

  20. Release the retaining tabs and remove the steering wheel airbag coil (1) from the steering column.

    Release the retaining tabs.

  22. Turn Signal Switch (1) @ Turn Signal Switch Bracket - Remove
  23. Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch (2) @ Turn Signal Switch Bracket - Remove

    Turn Signal Switch Bracket (1) - Remove

    With a flat bladed plastic trim tool, start at the front and work your way back to release the clips.

    Hood Primary Latch Release Cable Handle (1) @ Instrument Panel Knee Bolster - Remove

    Instrument Panel Knee Bolster Bolt (1) - Remove [3x]

    Using a flat-bladed tool, release instrument panel knee bolster (1).

    Front Floor Console Rear Air Duct Retainer (1) - Remove

  32. Floor Front Air Outlet Duct - Left Side (2) - Remove

    Instrument Panel Knee Bolster Bracket Bolt (1) - Remove [4x]

  34. Instrument Panel Knee Bolster Deflector (2) - Remove
  35. Turn the steering wheel to the straight ahead position and secure the steering wheel from moving.

    Intermediate Steering Shaft Middle Bolt (1) - Release

  37. Intermediate Steering Shaft Lower Bolt (2) - Remove
  38. Intermediate Steering Shaft (3) @ Steering Gear Pinion Shaft - Disconnect

    Intermediate Steering Shaft Upper Bolt (1) - Remove

  40. Intermediate Steering Shaft (2) @ Steering Column Shaft - Disconnect
  41. Intermediate Steering Shaft (2) @ Vehicle - Remove

    Steering Column Lower Support Bracket Bolt (1) - Loosen [2x]

    Steering Column Nut (1) - Remove [2x]

  44. Swing down the steering column to disconnect the electric connectors.

    Steering Column (1) @ Vehicle - Remove
