Removal Procedure

  1. Disable the SIR system. SIR Disabling and Enabling

    NOTE:

    Left side shown, right side similar.

    Use a flat bladed plastic trim tool to depress the steering wheel airbag access hole cover detents to remove the left and right steering wheel airbag access hole covers (1).

    Steering Wheel Airbag Bolt (1) - Remove [2x]

    Use a flat bladed plastic trim tool to separate the steering wheel airbag plate (1) from the steering wheel horn plate (2).

    Pull the steering wheel airbag away from the steering wheel to expose the electrical connections.

  6. Release the connector position assurance (CPA) retainer.
  7. Disconnect the electrical connectors.

    Loosen the steering wheel bolt (1) so that 2-3 threads are engaged.

  10. Wiggle the steering wheel until the wheel disengages completely.
  11. Steering Wheel Bolt (1) - Remove
  12. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  13. Steering Wheel (2) - Remove

    Using a small plastic trim tool, separate the instrument panel steering column upper trim cover (1) from the instrument panel steering column lower trim cover.

  15. Instrument Panel Steering Column Upper Trim Cover (1) - Reposition

    Instrument Panel Steering Column Lower Trim Cover Bolt (1) - Remove [3x]

    Instrument Panel Steering Column Lower Trim Cover (1) - Remove

  18. Disconnect the electrical connector, if equipped.

    Electrical Connector (1) @ Turn Signal Switch - Disconnect

  20. Wiring Harness Clip (2) - Release [2x]

    Electrical Connector (1) @ Gear Shift Control Module - Disconnect

    NOTE:

    Do NOT remove the bolt in the turn signal switch bracket band clamp. The turn signal switch bracket will need to be replaced if the bolt from the turn signal switch bracket band clamp is fully removed.

    Loosen the turn signal switch bracket band clamp (1).

  24. Remove the turn signal switch bracket as an assembly.

    Turn Signal Switch Bolt (2) @ Steering Column Control Module (3) - Remove [2x]

  26. Turn Signal Switch (1) @ Steering Column Control Module (3) - Remove
  27. Automatic Transmission Electronic Control Bolt (4) @ Steering Column Control Module (3) - Remove [2x]
  28. Gear Shift Control Module (5) @ Steering Column Control Module (3) - Remove
