Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (-KL9) , or Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (KL9)
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle

    {If equipped} Retainer Clip (1) - Disengage

    Underbody Splash Shield (2) - Remove - Underbody Splash Shield Replacement (High Country) , or Underbody Splash Shield Replacement (ZR2) , or Underbody Splash Shield Replacement (Trail Boss) , or Underbody Splash Shield Replacement (ULV)

    {with NZZ} Remove the underbody skid shield:

    1. Underbody Skid Shield Bolt (1) - Remove [2x]
    2. Underbody Skid Shield (2) - Remove

    {without NZZ} Remove the steering gear skid shield:

    1. Steering Gear Skid Shield Bolt (1) - Remove [2x]
    2. Steering Gear Skid Shield (2) - Remove

    Remove the power steering assist motor wire clip (3).

  8. Remove the power steering control module wiring power harness (1) from the 2 retaining clips (2) and reposition.

    NOTE:

    Some components not shown for graphic clarity.

    Disconnect the power steering control module wiring torque sensor harness (1) from the electric belt drive rack and pinion steering gear.

    Remove the power steering assist motor wire clip (3).

  11. Disconnect the power steering control module torque sensor wiring harness (1) from the power steering assist motor.
  12. Remove the power steering control module torque sensor wiring harness clip (2) from the electric belt drive rack and pinion steering gear housing.
  13. Remove the power steering control module torque sensor wiring harness.
