Installation Procedure
Steering Column (1) - Install
- CAUTION:
Refer to Fastener Caution .
NOTE:Support the steering column while installing the steering column bolts.
Steering Column Bolt (1) - Install and tighten [4x] 19 N.m (14 lb ft)
- Connect the steering column electrical connectors.
- Align the relationship marks made between the steering column and the upper intermediate steering shaft during removal.
Intermediate Steering Shaft (2) @ Steering Column - Install - Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement
- Intermediate Steering Shaft Upper Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement
- Remove the device used to prevent steering column rotation.
Steering Column Lower Trim Cover - Install - Steering Column Lower Trim Cover Replacement
Steering Wheel (2) - Install - Steering Wheel Replacement
- Steering Wheel Bolt (1) - Install and tighten - Steering Wheel Replacement
- {If equipped} Install the fuse for the steering column lock control module. The fuse is found in the instrument panel fuse block and is labeled ESCL. Electrical Center Identification Views (X50B - X53A)
- Enable the SIR System. SIR Disabling and Enabling
- {If equipped} Program the steering column lock control module. Control Module References
- Center the steering angle sensor. Steering Wheel Angle Sensor Centering
- If the battery was disconnected, wait for all modules to fall asleep. This can be done by closing all vehicle closures (doors, trunk, hood) and waiting for three minutes without actuating any vehicle functions or pushing any buttons.
- Perform functionality check of tilt and telescoping features.

Instrument Panel Lower Trim Panel Insulator - Left Side (2) - Install - Instrument Panel Lower Trim Panel Insulator Replacement - Left Side
The anti-rotation pin must be removed from the steering column before installing the steering wheel. Ensure that the steering wheel bolt is torqued to specification during steering wheel installation. Over torquing the steering wheel bolt can result in damage to the steering column rivets which will disable the telescoping mechanism. If the steering column rivets are damaged, a new steering column must be installed.
