Adjustment Procedure

  1. Before performing any adjustment affecting the wheel alignment, refer to Wheel Alignment Measurement .
    NOTE:

    Service bolt is available for the lower strut to steering knuckle position. Do not attempt to file on the strut to make camber adjustment. The service bolt is approximately 2 mm smaller in diameter to allow adjustment. Refer to the electronic parts catalog for proper application.

    Determine the actual camber (1), Positive (+) or Negative (-).

  3. Raise the front of the vehicle. Follow alignment machine instructions.
  4. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation

    Loosen the upper steering knuckle nut (1) enough to allow the splines of the steering knuckle bolt (2) to disengage from the steering knuckle.

  7. Remove the lower steering knuckle nut (3) and steering knuckle bolt (4) and DISCARD the steering knuckle bolt.
  8. Install service bolt to lower strut to steering knuckle. Do not fully tighten.
  9. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
  10. NOTE:

    For accurate readings, do not push or pull on the tire and wheel assembly during the alignment.

  11. Adjust the front camber to specifications. Wheel Alignment Measurement

    NOTE:

    The next step may require assistance.

    Hold the camber adjustment and tighten the bottom steering knuckle nut (3) while holding the steering knuckle bolt (4) to secure the adjustment. Do not fully torque at this time. Also make sure that the spline of the bolt is fully seated within the knuckle and strut.

  13. Lower the front wheels. Follow alignment machine instructions.
  14. Re-inspect the camber settings.
  15. CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

  16. Steering Knuckle Nut(1) - Tighten - Strut Assembly Removal and Installation (FE2, FE3 without F55)Strut Assembly Removal and Installation (FE3 with F55)
  17. Steering Knuckle Nut(3) - Tighten - Strut Assembly Removal and Installation (FE2, FE3 without F55)Strut Assembly Removal and Installation (FE3 with F55)
  18. When the camber is within specifications, adjust the toe.

    Steering Gear Boot Clamp(1) - Disengage

    Rotate the inner tie rod (1) as necessary to achieve the required front toe specification setting. Wheel Alignment Specifications

    CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

    Steering Linkage Inner Tie Rod Nut(2) - Tighten - Fastener Specifications 

  23. Steering Gear Boot Clamp(1) - Engage
  24. Check the front toe setting after tightening.
  25. Re-adjust the front toe setting if necessary.
  26. Center the steering wheel position sensor. Steering Wheel Angle Sensor Centering
