Installation Procedure

    NOTE:

    The service part is supplied as a complete hinge pillar outer and will need to be cut at the proper location for sectioning. The service part will overlap the original hinge pillar outer by approximately 25 mm (1").

  1. Measure and mark on the hinge pillar outer (1) at the top of the hole (2), allowing for 25 mm (1") of overlap to the sectioned hinge pillar outer on the vehicle.

  2. NOTE:

    All cuts are square to surface.

  3. Cut the hinge pillar outer at the marked location (1).

  4. NOTE:

    Temporarily install the hinge pillar outer for proper fit.

  5. Position hinge pillar outer (1) to vehicle using 3-dimensional measuring equipment.

  6. NOTE:

    Use 6.7 mm (17/64") holes for rivet installation.

  7. Drill 6.7 mm (17/64") hole (1) on hinge pillar outer and vehicle for rivet installation. [3x]

  8. Remove the hinge pillar outer (1) from the vehicle.

  9. NOTE:

    Space plug weld holes every 40 mm (1.5") apart at the sectioning location.

  10. Drill 8 mm (5/16") plug weld holes (2).
  11. Drill 8 mm (5/16") plug weld holes (1). [13x]
  12. Prepare all mating surfaces for welding as necessary.
  13. Apply weld-thru coating or equivalent to all welding surfaces. Anti-Corrosion Treatment and Repair

  14. NOTE:

    Only remove E-coat where adhesive will be applied.

  15. Clean and prepare hinge pillar outer and vehicle for adhesive according to adhesive manufacturer's recommendations. METAL PANEL BONDING
  16. Apply structural adhesive (1) on the mating surfaces of hinge pillar outer and vehicle according to adhesive manufacturer's recommendations. METAL PANEL BONDING

  17. Install hinge pillar outer (1) to vehicle and clamp into place.

  19. NOTE:

    To create a solid weld with minimum heat distortion make 25 mm (1") stitch welds along the seam with 25 mm (1") gaps between them. Then go back and complete the stitch weld.

  20. Install MIG/MAG stich weld (1) on sectioning location.

  21. NOTE:

    Right hand side will have 3 additional welds.

  22. Install spot welds (1). [16x]
  23. Install spot welds (2). [11x]

  24. Install MIG/MAG welds (2). [13x]
  25. Install MIG/MAG welds (1) on sectioning location.
  26. Install body side outer panel. Body Side Outer Panel Sectioning (SWB) Body Side Outer Panel Sectioning (LWB) , or Body Side Outer Panel Replacement (SWB) Body Side Outer Panel Replacement (LWB) 
  27. Apply the sealers and anti-corrosion materials to the repair area as necessary. Anti-Corrosion Treatment and Repair
  28. NOTE:

    Before refinishing, refer to Anti-Corrosion Treatment and Repair

  29. Paint the repaired area. Basecoat/Clearcoat Paint Systems .
  30. Install all related panels and components.
  31. Connect the battery negative cable. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (9C1, 5W4)Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (KL9)
  32. Enable the SIR System. SIR Disabling and Enabling .
