Removal Procedure

    WARNING:

When working with any type of glass or sheet metal with exposed or rough edges, wear approved safety glasses and gloves in order to reduce the chance of personal injury.

    WARNING:

If a window is cracked but still intact, crisscross the window with masking tape in order to reduce the risk of damage or personal injury.

    CAUTION:

DO NOT close the lift window panel with the struts attached unless the window is installed and the window adhesive fully cured. The window adds strength and rigidity to the lift window panel. Attempting to close the lift window panel, with the struts installed, without a window or with the window adhesive not fully cured, could cause the panel to crack.

  1. Apply a double layer of masking tape around the perimeter of the painted surfaces.
  2. Remove the liftgate panel ventilating molding. Liftgate Panel Ventilating Molding Replacement
  3. Remove the rear closure center applique. Rear Closure Center Applique Replacement
  4. Disconnect the defrost tab electrical connectors.
  5. NOTE:

If reusing the rear window, use care when disconnecting the defrost tabs to not twist or pull excessively which may cause the defrost tab to separate from the rear window.

  6. Cover the engine compartment to protect from broken glass.

    NOTE:

Keep the cutting edge of the tool against the rear window. This will allow the urethane adhesive to be separated from the window.

Use BO-24402-A  Glass Sealant Remover (1) or equivalent in order to remove the window (2).

    • Leave a base of urethane on the pinchweld flange.
    • The only suitable lubrication is clear water.
