Circuit/System Testing

NOTE:

Circuit/System Verification must be performed before proceeding with Circuit/System Testing.

Trip/Fuel Switch Malfunction

  1. Ignition OFF and all vehicle systems OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the S16 Driver Information Center Switch.
  2. Test for less than 2 Ω between the ground circuit terminal 5 and ground.
    • If 2 Ω or greater

Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit

    • If less than 2 Ω
  3. Test for B+ between the signal circuit terminal 9 and ground.
    • If less than B+
    1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the P16 instrument cluster.
    2. Test for infinite resistance between the signal circuit and ground.
      • If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground on the circuit.
      • If infinite resistance
    3. Test for less than 2 Ω in the signal circuit end to end.
      • If 2 Ω or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 Ω, replace the P16 instrument cluster.
    • If B+
  4. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the P16 instrument cluster, ignition ON.
  5. Test for less than 1 V between the signal circuit and ground.
    • If 1 V or greater

Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.

    • If less than 1 V
  6. Test or replace the S78 Turn Signal/ Multifunction Switch.

Set, Customization, and Vehicle Information Switch Malfunction

  1. Ignition OFF and all vehicle systems OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the S16 Driver Information Center Switch, ignition ON.
  2. Test for less than 2 Ω between the low reference circuit terminal 7 and ground.
    • If 2 Ω or greater
    1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the P16 instrument cluster.
    2. Test for less than 2 Ω in the low reference circuit end to end.
      • If 2 Ω or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 Ω, repair the open/high resistance in the ground connection.
    • If less than 2 Ω
  3. Test for 11.8 - 12.2 V between the signal circuit terminal 6 and ground.
    • If less than 11.8 V
    • If greater than 12.2 V
    1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the P16 instrument cluster, ignition ON.
    2. Test for less than 1 V between the signal circuit and ground.
      • If 1 V or greater, repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
      • If less than 1 V, replace the P16 instrument cluster.
    • If between 11.8 - 12.2 V
  4. Test or replace the S16 Driver Information Center Switch.

HUD Switch Malfunction

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the HUD switch assembly.
  2. Ignition OFF, test for less than 1 ohm between the low reference circuit terminal 3 and ground.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the low reference circuit for an open/high resistance.
  3. Ignition ON, verify that all of the scan tool HUD Switch parameters are Inactive.
    • If any are not Inactive, test the signal circuit terminal 6 for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the HUD.
  4. Ignition ON, install a 3-amp fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal 6 and the low reference circuit terminal 3. Verify the scan tool HUD Switch parameters are Active.
    • If any are not Active, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the IPC.
  5. If all the circuits test normal, test or replace the HUD switch assembly.
