Circuit/System Testing

Windshield Wiper/Washer Switch Circuit Malfunction

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the X1 harness connector at the multifunction switch.
  2. Test for less than 20 Ω between the low reference circuit terminal 7 and ground.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  3. Ignition ON, verify the scan tool Windshield Washer Switch parameter is Inactive.
    • If not the specified value, test the control circuit terminal 6 (without N38) or terminal 8 (with N38) for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
  4. Install a 3 A fused jumper wire between the control circuit terminal 6 (without N38) or terminal 8 (with N38) and ground. Verify the scan tool Windshield Washer Switch parameter is Active.
    • If not the specified value, test the control circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
  5. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the multifunction switch.

Washer Pump Circuit Malfunction

  1. Ignition OFF, Disconnect harness connector at Windshield Washer Fluid Pump.
  2. Ignition ON, test for B+ at control circuit terminal A of Windshield Washer Fluid Pump connector while activating washers.
    • If not the specified value, test the control circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
  3. Install a test light between control circuit terminal A and ground circuit terminal B at the windshield washer fluid pump connector
  4. The test lamp should turn ON and OFF when the windshield washers are commanded ON and OFF.
    • If not the specified value, test the ground circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
