Removal Procedure
- If servicing the left side steering gear boot, remove the air cleaner outlet duct. Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement (LT1)Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement (LT4)
- If servicing the right side steering gear boot, remove the air cleaner assembly. Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement (LT1)Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement (LT4)
- Remove Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod - Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement
- Remove Steering Linkage Inner Tie Rod Nut (1)
- Remove Steering Gear Boot Outer Clamp (2)
- Partially lower the vehicle.
- From the engine compartment, cut and remove the steering gear boot inner clamp (1).
DISCARD the clamp.
- Raise the vehicle.
- Remove the steering gear boot (2) from the steering gear.
- After removing the steering gear boot, inspect the steering linkage inner tie rod for evidence of corrosion or contamination.If corrosion or contamination is evident, replace the steering gear. Electric Belt Drive Rack and Pinion Steering Gear Replacement
