Exhaust System Description: Introduction
The tasks of an exhaust system are the routing of the exhaust gases from the engine to the rear of the vehicle and the reduction of the acoustic emissions which occur during combustion in the cylinder.
Due to legal regulations the maximum toxic substance values in the exhaust gas are determined. To ensure these values a exhaust control systems are used.
The components of an emission control system are a catalytic converter and several heated oxygen sensors.
An exhaust system may consist of the following components:
| Callout | Component Name |
|---|---|
| 1 | Heated Oxygen Sensor Position 1 |
| 2 | Catalytic Converter |
| 3 | Heated Oxygen Sensor Position 2 |
| 4 | Exhaust Muffler |
| 5 | Exhaust Rear Muffler Clamp |
| 6 | Exhaust Rear Muffler |
