Component Testing

Window Motor

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate M74 Window Motor.
  2. Install a 25 A fused jumper wire between one of the control terminals and 12 V. Momentarily install a jumper wire between the other control terminal and ground. Reverse the jumper wires at least two times, the M74 Window Motor should perform the UP and DOWN functions.
    • If the M74 Window Motor does not perform the UP and DOWN functions 

      Replace the M74 Window Motor.

    • If the M74 Window Motor performs the UP and DOWN functions 
  3. All OK

Driver Window Switch

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the X1 and X2 harness connectors at the S79D Window Switch-Driver.
  2. Test for infinite resistance between the terminals listed below with the switch in the open position:
    • Ignition terminal E X1 and control terminal A X2
    • Ignition terminal E X1 and control terminal B X2
    • Ignition terminal E X1 and control terminal C X1
    • Ignition terminal E X1 and control terminal C X2
    • Ignition terminal E X1 and control terminal D X1
    • Ignition terminal E X1 and control terminal E X2
    • Ignition terminal E X1 and control terminal F X1
    • Ignition terminal E X1 and control terminal G X1
    • Ignition terminal E X1 and control terminal H X1
    • If less than infinite resistance 

      Replace the S79D Window Switch-Driver.

    • If infinite resistance 
  3. Test for less than 3 Ω between the terminals listed below with the switch in the open position:
    • Ground terminal B X1 and control terminal A X2
    • Ground terminal B X1 and control terminal B X2
    • Ground terminal B X1 and control terminal C X1
    • Ground terminal B X1 and control terminal C X2
    • Ground terminal B X1 and control terminal D X1
    • Ground terminal B X1 and control terminal E X2
    • Ground terminal B X1 and control terminal F X1
    • Ground terminal B X1 and control terminal G X1
    • Ground terminal B X1 and control terminal H X1
    • If 3 Ω or greater 

      Replace the S79D Window Switch-Driver.

    • If less than 3 Ω 
  4. Test for less than 3 Ω between the terminals listed below with the switch in the Up position.
    • Ignition terminal E X1 and control terminal B X2
    • Ignition terminal E X1 and control terminal D X1
    • Ignition terminal E X1 and control terminal E X2
    • Ignition terminal E X1 and control terminal G X1
    • Ignition terminal E X1 and control terminal H X1
    • If 3 Ω or greater 

      Replace the S79D Window Switch-Driver.

    • If less than 3 Ω 
  5. Test for less than 3 Ω between the terminals listed below with the switch in the Down position:
    • Ignition terminal E X1 and control terminal A X2
    • Ignition terminal E X1 and control terminal C X1
    • Ignition terminal E X1 and control terminal C X2
    • Ignition terminal E X1 and control terminal H X1
    • If 3 Ω or greater 

      Replace the S79D Window Switch-Driver.

    • If less than 3 Ω 
  6. All OK

Passenger Window Switch

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the S79P Window Switch-Passenger.
  2. Test for infinite resistance between the terminals listed below with the switch in the open position:
    • Ignition terminal A and control terminal F
    • Ignition terminal A and control terminal G
    • If less than infinite resistance 

      Replace the S79P Window Switch-Passenger.

    • If infinite resistance 
  3. Test for less than 3 Ω between the control terminals listed below with the switch in the open position:
    • Control terminal G and control terminal H
    • Control terminal D and control terminal F
    • If 3 Ω or greater 

      Replace the S79P Window Switch-Passenger.

    • If less than 3 Ω 
  4. Test for less than 3 Ω between the ignition terminal A and the control terminal G with the switch in the Up position.
    • If 3 Ω or greater 

      Replace the S79P Window Switch-Passenger.

    • If less than 3 Ω 
  5. Test for less than 3 Ω between the ignition terminal A and the control terminal F with the switch in the Down position.
    • If 3 Ω or greater 

      Replace the S79P Window Switch-Passenger.

    • If less than 3 Ω 
  6. All OK

Rear Window Switch

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate rear S79 Window Switch.
  2. Test for infinite resistance between the terminals listed below with the switch in the open position:
    • Control terminal E and control terminal A
    • Control terminal E and control terminal D
    • If less than infinite resistance 

      Replace the rear S79 Window Switch.

    • If infinite resistance 
  3. Test for less than 3 Ω between the control terminals listed below with the switch in the open position:
    • Control terminal C and control terminal D
    • Control terminal A and control terminal H
    • If 3 Ω or greater 

      Replace the rear S79 Window Switch.

    • If less than 3 Ω 
  4. Test for less than 3 Ω between the control terminal E and the control terminal D with the switch in the Up position.
    • If 3 Ω or greater 

      Replace the rear S79 Window Switch.

    • If less than 3 Ω 
  5. Test for less than 3 Ω between the control terminal E and the control terminal A with the switch in the Down position.
    • If 3 Ω or greater 

      Replace the rear S79 Window Switch.

    • If less than 3 Ω 
  6. All OK
