Installation Procedure

  1. Position the steering column assembly (2) into the vehicle.
  2. CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

  3. Install the upper steering column bracket bolts (1) to the upper reinforcement assembly.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the bolts to 25 (18 lb ft).

  5. Reconnect the intermediate steering shaft assembly (1) to the steering column.
  6. Remove J 42640  steering column lock pin from the steering column.
  7. Turn the steering wheel as needed to gain access to the intermediate steering shaft nut and bolt.

  9. Install the intermediate steering shaft nut (1) and (2) bolt.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the bolt to 48 (35 lb ft).

  10. Connect all the electrical connectors to the instrument panel (I/P) wiring harness.
  11. Install the driver knee bolster panel. Refer to Driver Knee Bolster Panel Replacement .
  12. Install the left instrument panel insulator panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement .
  13. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
