Removal Procedure
WARNING:
Refer to Battery Disconnect Warning .
- Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Primary) , Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Auxiliary) .
- Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
- Remove the steering wheel inflatable restraint module. Refer to Steering Wheel Inflatable Restraint Module Replacement .
- Disconnect the steering wheel electrical connector (2).
- Remove the steering wheel to steering column retaining bolt (1).
Discard the bolt.
- Mark the steering wheel (4) in relation to the steering column shaft (3).
- Remove the steering wheel (4) from the steering column shaft (3).
WARNING:
Refer to SIR Warning .
NOTE:
Bolts with micro-encapsulated thread sealant must be discarded after removal.
NOTE:
Observing the orientation of the steering wheel with reference to the steering column will minimize the potential of incorrect steering wheel alignment.
NOTE:
The front wheels and steering wheel (4) must be in the straight ahead position before removing the steering wheel (4) from the steering column shaft (3).
