Removal Procedure

WARNING:

Refer to Battery Disconnect Warning .

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Primary) , Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Auxiliary) .
  2. WARNING:

    Refer to SIR Warning .

  3. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
  4. Remove the steering wheel inflatable restraint module. Refer to Steering Wheel Inflatable Restraint Module Replacement .

  6. Disconnect the steering wheel electrical connector (2).
  7. NOTE:

    Bolts with micro-encapsulated thread sealant must be discarded after removal.

  8. Remove the steering wheel to steering column retaining bolt (1).

    Discard the bolt.

  9. NOTE:

    Observing the orientation of the steering wheel with reference to the steering column will minimize the potential of incorrect steering wheel alignment.

  10. Mark the steering wheel (4) in relation to the steering column shaft (3).
  11. NOTE:

    The front wheels and steering wheel (4) must be in the straight ahead position before removing the steering wheel (4) from the steering column shaft (3).

  12. Remove the steering wheel (4) from the steering column shaft (3).
