Installation Procedure

  1. If you are replacing the intermediate steering shaft, copy the match marks from the old shaft to the new shaft.

  3. Position the intermediate steering shaft (3) in the vehicle on the driver's floor.
  4. Position the intermediate steering shaft in the dash panel opening.
  5. Working under the instrument panel, install the intermediate shaft seal (4) to the dash panel (5).
  6. Align the match marks and connect the steering column shaft (1) to the intermediate steering shaft.
  7. CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

  8. Install the NEW steering column shaft to intermediate steering shaft retaining bolt (2) and tighten to 28 N.m (21 lb ft).
  9. Install the driver side floor air outlet duct. Refer to Floor Air Outlet Duct Replacement - Left Side (LHD) .
  10. Install the driver side knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement .
  11. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .

  13. Working under the vehicle, align the match marks and connect the intermediate steering shaft (1) to the steering gear pinion shaft (3).
  14. Install NEW the intermediate steering shaft to pinion shaft retaining bolt (2) and tighten to 25 N.m (15 lb ft).
  15. Working under the vehicle, ensure the intermediate shaft seal is installed properly to the dash panel.
  16. Lower the vehicle.
