Installation Procedure
- If you are replacing the intermediate steering shaft, copy the match marks from the old shaft to the new shaft.
- Position the intermediate steering shaft (3) in the vehicle on the driver's floor.
- Position the intermediate steering shaft in the dash panel opening.
- Working under the instrument panel, install the intermediate shaft seal (4) to the dash panel (5).
- Align the match marks and connect the steering column shaft (1) to the intermediate steering shaft.
- Install the NEW steering column shaft to intermediate steering shaft retaining bolt (2) and tighten to 28 N.m (21 lb ft).
- Install the driver side floor air outlet duct. Refer to Floor Air Outlet Duct Replacement - Left Side (LHD) .
- Install the driver side knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement .
- Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
- Working under the vehicle, align the match marks and connect the intermediate steering shaft (1) to the steering gear pinion shaft (3).
- Install NEW the intermediate steering shaft to pinion shaft retaining bolt (2) and tighten to 25 N.m (15 lb ft).
- Working under the vehicle, ensure the intermediate shaft seal is installed properly to the dash panel.
- Lower the vehicle.
