Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module Scan Tool Information

The inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) scan tool data list contains all the restraint system related parameters that are available on the scan tool. The parameters in the list are arranged in alphabetical order.

Use the SDM scan tool data list as directed by a diagnostic table or in order to supplement the diagnostic procedures. Begin all of the diagnostic procedures with the Diagnostic System Check - SIR. Use the SDM scan tool data list after the following is determined:

The typical data values are obtained from a properly operating vehicle under the conditions specified in the second row of the scan tool data list table. Comparison of the parameter values from the suspect vehicle with the typical data values may reveal the source of the customer concern.

Primary Key Status - Valid The scan tool displays if there is a passenger airbag suppression device used on this vehicle and if so, whether it is has an automatic, manual key switch or both.
- Invalid
Received Primary Key - 4711 The scan tool displays what the BCM is sending out as the primary key. The SDM then compares it to what it has stored. This should match the SDM Primary Key.
Run/Crank Signal Ignition is in RUN/CRANK position Active The scan tool displays the current power mode of the SDM.
Ignition is in OFF/ACC position Inactive
Seat Position Driver Seat positioned toward the rear of the cabin Rearward The scan tool displays Rearward or Forward. This is the positional state of the drive seat.
Seat positioned close to the steering wheel Forward
Secondary Key Status - Valid The scan tool displays whether the Secondary Key is valid or invalid. This determines if the VIN stored in SDM memory matches what is stored in the BCM.
- Invalid
System Power Mode Ignition is in OFF position Off This scan tool displays the current position of the ignition cycle.
Ignition is in ACC position Accessory
Ignition is in RUN position Run
Ignition is in CRANK position Crank
