Circuit/System Testing
- Engine running, accessories OFF, measure and record the battery voltage at the battery terminals. The voltage should be between 12.6 and 15.0 volts.
- If not within the specified range, refer to Charging System Test .
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connectors at the ECM.
- Ignition OFF and scan tool disconnected, open and close the driver door, and wait 1 minute. Test for less than 5 ohms between the following ground circuit terminals and ground:
- Terminal 1 X1 (ECM 1.6 LXT)
- Terminal 2 X1 (ECM 1.6 LXT)
- Terminal 17 X1 (ECM 1.6 LXT)
- Terminal 3 (ECM 1.4 L95)
- Terminal 24 (ECM 1.4 L95)
- Terminal 28 (ECM 1.4 L95)
- Terminal 33 (ECM 1.4 L95)
- Terminal 67 (ECM 1.4 L95)
- Terminal 39 X2 (ECM 1.4 LDT)
- Terminal 41 X2 (ECM 1.4 LDT)
- Terminal 37 X2 (ECM 1.4 LDT)
- Terminal 38 X2 (ECM 1.4 LDT)
- Terminal 40 X2 (ECM 1.4 LDT)
- Terminal 39 X2 (ECM 1.2)
- Terminal 41 X2 (ECM 1.2)
- Terminal 37 X2 (ECM 1.2)
- Terminal 38 X2 (ECM 1.2)
- Terminal 40 X2 (ECM 1.2)
- Terminal 73 X1 (ECM 1.5)
- Terminal 73 X2 (ECM 1.6 LDE, LLU AND LXV or 1.8 2HO)
- If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
- Verify that a test lamp illuminates between the following B+ circuit terminals and ground:
- Terminal 2 X2 (ECM 1.6 LXT)
- Terminal 18 X2 (ECM 1.6 LXT)
- Terminal 3 X2 (ECM 1.6 LXT)
- Terminal 30 (ECM 1.4 L95)
- Terminal 29 (ECM 1.4 L95)
- Terminal 17 X1 (ECM 1.4 LDT)
- Terminal 1 X1 (ECM 1.4 LDT)
- Terminal 18 X1 (ECM 1.4 LDT)
- Terminal 3 X2 (ECM 1.4 LDT)
- Terminal 17 X1 (ECM 1.2)
- Terminal 1 X1 (ECM 1.2)
- Terminal 18 X1 (ECM 1.2)
- Terminal 3 X2 (ECM 1.2)
- Terminal 62 X1 (ECM 1.5)
- Terminal 22 X1 (ECM 1.5)
- Terminal 1 X1 (ECM 1.5)
- Terminal 3 X1 (ECM 1.5)
- Terminal 14 X1 (ECM 1.6 LDE, LLU AND LXV or 1.8 2HO)
- Terminal 3 X1 (ECM 1.6 LDE, LLU AND LXV or 1.8 2HO)
- Terminal 12 X1 (ECM 1.6 LDE, LLU AND LXV or 1.8 2HO)
- If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the B+ circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.
- If all circuits test normal, replace the ECM.
