Installation Procedure

NOTE: A special anti-seize compound is used on the HO2S threads. The compound consists of a liquid graphite and glass beads. The graphite will burn away, but the glass beads will remain, making the sensor easier to remove. New or service sensors will have the compound applied to the threads. If a sensor is removed and is to be reinstalled, the threads must have an anti-seize compound applied before installation.

  1. If reinstalling the old HO2S, coat the threads with anti-seize compound GM P/N 12377953 or equivalent.
    2. CAUTION: Refer to Fastener Caution .
  2. Install the HO2S.

    Tighten:  Tighten the sensor to 42 N.m (31 lb ft).

  3. Install the HO2S electrical harness lead (2) into the trough (1) on the exhaust heat shield, and bend the trough up slightly.

  4. If equipped with a manual transaxle, perform the following steps, connect the engine harness electrical connector (4) to the HO2S.
  5. Install the CPA retainer (3).

  6. If equipped with a automatic transaxle, perform the following steps, connect the engine harness electrical connector (3) to the HO2S.
  7. Install the CPA retainer (2).
  8. If equipped with a manual transaxle, install the wheel drive shaft heat shield. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Heat Shield Replacement .
