Removal Procedure

- Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure (L26) or Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure (LY7) .
- Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement for the 3.8L engine or to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement for the 3.6L (LY7) engine.
- Drain the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System (L26 Static Fill) , Draining and Filling Cooling System (LY7 Static Fill) or Draining and Filling Cooling System (L26, LY7, GE 47716 Fill) .
- Remove the right and the left engine mount struts. Refer to Engine Mount Strut Replacement - Left and Engine Mount Strut Replacement - Right for the 3.8L engine or to Engine Mount Strut Replacement - Left for the 3.6L (LY7) engine and Engine Mount Strut Replacement - Right for the 3.6L (LY7) engine.
- Use J 38185 to remove the inlet hose clamp from the radiator. See Special Tools .
- Remove the inlet hose from the radiator.
- Remove the powertrain control module (PCM) harness clip from the fan shroud.
- Remove the transmission oil cooler lines from the retainer clip at the bottom of the cooling fan shroud.
- Remove the fan shroud clip from the condenser tubes.
- Remove the bolt that connects the fan shroud to the condenser hold down bracket.
- Remove the air deflectors from the top of the radiator.
- Remove the cooling fan shroud bolts.
- Remove the coolant reservoir hose from the radiator overflow neck.
- Remove the radiator upper support brackets and bolts that connect to the fan shroud.
- Disconnect the engine cooling fan motors electrical connectors.
- Remove the cooling fan motors electrical harness from the fan shroud clips.
- Remove the cooling fan shroud.
- Use J 38185 to remove the outlet hose clamp from the radiator. See Special Tools .
- Remove the outlet hose from the radiator.
- Disconnect the transaxle oil cooler pipes from the radiator. Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Line Quick Connect Fitting for the 4T65-E transaxle.
- Tilt the top of the radiator rearward.
- Remove the condenser hold down bracket (1) from the radiator.
- Lift the condenser from the mounting tabs on the radiator (2). Position the condenser aside.
- Remove the radiator.
CAUTION:
Before servicing any electrical component, the ignition key must be in the OFF or LOCK position and all electrical loads must be OFF, unless instructed otherwise in these procedures. If a tool or equipment could easily come in contact with a live exposed electrical terminal, also disconnect the negative battery cable. Failure to follow these precautions may cause personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.
