Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module Replacement

Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module Replacement

Callout Component Name
CAUTION: Do not strike or jolt the inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM). Before applying power to the SDM, make sure that it is securely fastened with the arrow facing toward the front of the vehicle. Failure to observe the correct installation procedure could cause SIR deployment, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
Fastener Tightening Specifications:  Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications .
Preliminary Procedure: 
Disable the supplemental inflatable restraint (SIR) system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 8 .
1 Holder, Front Floor Console Rear Cup
2 Bolt, Front Floor Console Armrest Assembly (Qty: 2)

Tighten:  10 N.m (89 lb in)

3 Armrest Assembly, Front Floor Console
4 Plate, Front Floor Console Park Brake Trim
Tip:  Engage the park brake in order to remove the trim plate.
5 Nut, Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic (Qty: 3)

Tighten:  10 N.m (89 lb in)

6 Module, Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic
Tip: 
  1. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) retainer.
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  3. The AIR BAG indicator may remain ON after the sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) has been replaced. DTC B1001 may set requiring the SDM part number to be set in multiple modules. If the indicator remains ON after enabling the SIR system, perform the diagnostic system check and follow the steps thoroughly to ensure that the SDM is set properly.
  4. Reprogram the body control module (BCM). Refer to Body Control Module Programming and Setup .
