Installation Procedure
- If you did NOT replace the steering column, ensure that the front wheels and tires are in the straight ahead position.
- If you replaced the steering column, ensure that the front wheels and tires did not move.
- If necessary, center the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Centering .
- If you are replacing the steering wheel, use paint in order to place match marks (2) on the new steering wheel in the same position as on the old steering wheel.
- Install the steering wheel (3) to the steering shaft. Fit the 2 tabs on the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil (5) into the 2 slots in the back of the steering wheel (4). Align the marks (1) on the steering wheel and on the steering shaft.
- Ensure the steering wheel is in the straight ahead position when the tires and wheels are in the straight ahead position.
- Install the steering shaft nut (2).
Tighten: Tighten the nut to 33 N.m (23.5 lb ft).
- Install the inflatable restraint steering wheel module to the steering wheel. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in SIR.
- Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 in SIR.
NOTE:
When installing the steering wheel, ensure that the 2 tabs on the SIR coil align with the 2 slots on the steering wheel mounting surface. Failure to align the tabs may cause incorrect alignment of some components during installation. This may damage the SIR coil.
