Removal Procedure

    IMPORTANT: In the event of deployment, inspect the supplemental inflatable restraint (SIR) coil assembly wire for any signs of scorching, melting or other damage due to excessive heat. If there is damage to the coil assembly, replace the coil assembly.
  1. Disable the SIR. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 .
  2. Remove the steering wheel from the steering column. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
  3. Remove the IP steering column opening trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel (I/P) Trim Panel Replacement - Left in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
  4. Remove the 3 screws from the steering column lower cover (2).
  5. Separate the upper cover and the lower cover, then remove them.
  6. Disconnect all connectors for the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil and combination switch assembly.
  7. Remove the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil and combination switch assembly.
