Test Description
The following list gives a description for appropriate step numbers in diagnostic procedure.
- 2
Engine coolant temperature affects ability of fuel injector tester to detect a faulty fuel injector. - 3
The first second of voltage displayed by DVOM may be inaccurate due to initial current surge. Therefore, record lowest voltage displayed by DVOM after first second of test. Voltage displayed by DVOM may increase throughout test as fuel injector windings warm and resistance of fuel injector windings change. An erratic voltage reading indicates an intermittent connection within fuel injector. From voltages recorded, identify highest voltage, excluding any voltages of more than 9.5 volts. Subtract each voltage that is not more than 9.5 volts from highest voltage. Record each subtracted value. See Fig 1. The subtracted value for any fuel injector must not exceed 0.8 volt. A fuel injector with a subtracted value that is more than 0.6 volt is considered faulty and must be replaced. A fuel injector with a recorded voltage of more than 9.5 volts is also considered faulty and must be replaced.
