Diagnostic Procedures
- Perform diagnostic system check - engine controls. See DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK - ENGINE CONTROLS under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. After performing diagnostic system check - engine controls, go to next step.
- Check for any of the following conditions: Objects blocking the MAF sensor inlet screen, intake manifold vacuum leaks, throttle body vacuum leaks, EGR valve leaks, or faulty, missing or incorrectly installed PCV valve. Repair as necessary. Was a repair necessary? If yes, go to step 13 . If no, go to next step.
- Turn ON the ignition, leaving the engine OFF. Use the scan tool Clear Information function. Operate the vehicle within the Freeze Frame conditions. Is DTC P0101 set? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to DIAGNOSTIC AIDS .
- Turn OFF the ignition. Disconnect MAF sensor electrical connector. Turn ON the ignition, leaving the engine OFF. Probe MAF sensor supply voltage circuit at MAF sensor harness connector using a test light connected to ground. Is the test light illuminated? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 9 .
- Connect test light between MAF sensor supply voltage circuit and ground circuit at MAF sensor harness connector. Is test light illuminated? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 10 .
- Turn OFF ignition. Reconnect MAF sensor connector. Turn ON ignition, leaving engine OFF. Backprobe MAF sensor signal circuit at PCM using a DVOM. Measure voltage. Is voltage within 1.0-1.6 V? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 8 .
- Check for a poor connection at MAF sensor and PCM connectors. Repair as necessary. Was a repair necessary? If yes, go to step 13 . If no, go to step 12 .
- Check MAF sensor signal circuit for an open between PCM and MAF sensor, a short between PCM and MAF sensor, or a poor connection at MAF sensor. Repair as necessary. Was a repair necessary? If yes, go to step 13 . If no, go to step 11 .
- Locate and repair open circuit in supply voltage to MAF sensor. After repairs, go to step 13 .
- Locate and repair open circuit in ground circuit to MAF sensor. After repairs, go to step 13 .
- Replace MAF sensor. When complete, go to step 13 .
- Replace PCM. Perform PCM relearn procedure. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE under PROGRAMMING. After replacing PCM, go to next step.
- Turn OFF the ignition. Remove the DOME fuse for 30 seconds. Install the DOME fuse. Reset the radio clock time. Start the engine. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC or until the DTC P0101 diagnostic test has run. See CONDITIONS FOR RUNNING DTC . Does the DTC run and pass? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 2 .
- With a scan tool, observe the stored information, Capture Info. Does the scan tool display any DTCs that you have not diagnosed? If yes, see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If no, system is okay.
