Diagnostic Procedures

  1. Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Engine Controls? If yes, go to next step. If no, see DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK - ENGINE CONTROLS  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Turn OFF ignition. Disconnect PCM. Turn ON ignition, leaving engine OFF. Is MIL illuminated? If yes, go to next step. If yes, go to step  5 .
  3. Check for a short to ground in the MIL control circuit between the PCM and IPC assembly. Repair as necessary. Was a repair necessary? If yes, go to step  6 . If no, go to next step.
  4. Check the IPC assembly for a shorted circuit board. Repair or replace as necessary. After repairs, go to step  6 .
  5. Replace PCM. Perform PCM relearn procedure. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE  under PROGRAMMING. After replacing PCM, go to next step.
  6. Start engine and observe MIL. Does the MIL turn OFF in about 1-2 seconds after engine is started? If yes, system is okay. If no, perform DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK - ENGINE CONTROLS  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
