Diagnostic Procedures
- Perform diagnostic system check - engine controls. See DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK - ENGINE CONTROLS under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. After performing diagnostic system check - engine controls, go to next step.
- Are any DTCs set other than DTCs P0131, P0132, P0133, P0136, P0171, or P0172? If yes, see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If no, go to next step.
- Start the engine. Run the engine until the engine reaches a normal operating temperature. Increase the engine speed to 2,000 RPM for 1 minute. Operate the vehicle within the parameters specified in the first 3 items listed under Conditions for Setting the DTC. Monitor the HO2S 1 voltage with a scan tool. Does the HO2S 1 voltage switch below and above the specified value of 300-600 mV? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 5 .
- Turn ON the ignition, leaving the engine OFF. Perform the scan tool clear DTC information function. Operate the vehicle within Freeze Frame conditions as specified or until the P0134 diagnostic test has run. Does the HO2S 1 voltage switch below and above the specified value of 300-600 mV? If yes, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS . If no, go to next step.
- Disconnect the HO2S 1 electrical connector. Observe the HO2S 1 voltage parameter on the scan tool. Is the HO2S 1 voltage within 0-80 mV? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 10 .
- Probe the harness side of the HO2S 1 ground circuit with a test light connected to B+. Does the test light illuminate? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 8 .
- Use the Digital Multimeter (DMM) and select the Millivolt DC scale. Connect one lead of the DMM to B+. Connect the other lead of the DMM to the HO2S 1 signal circuit. Observe the HO2S 1 voltage parameter on the scan tool. Does the scan tool indicate a HO2S 1 voltage near 1000 mV? If yes, go to step 11 . If no, go to step 9 .
- Check for an open in the HO2S 1 ground circuit. Repair as necessary. Was a repair necessary? If yes, go to step 13 . If no, go to step 12 .
- Check the HO2S 1 signal circuit for an open or a short to ground. Repair as necessary. Was a repair necessary? If yes, go to step 13 . If no, go to step 12 .
- Check the HO2S 1 signal circuit for a short to voltage. Repair as necessary. Was a repair necessary? If yes, go to step 13 . If no, go to step 12 .
- Replace HO2S No. 1. After replacing sensor, go to step 13 .
- Replace PCM. Perform PCM relearn procedure. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE under PROGRAMMING. After replacing PCM, go to next step.
- Turn OFF the ignition. Remove the DOME fuse for 30 seconds. Install the DOME fuse. Reset the radio clock time. Start the engine. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC or until the DTC P0134 diagnostic test has run. See CONDITIONS FOR RUNNING DTC . Does the DTC run and pass? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 2 .
- With a scan tool, observe the stored information, Capture Info. Does the scan tool display any DTCs that you have not diagnosed? If yes, go to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If no, system is okay.
