Diagnostic Procedures

  1. Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Engine Controls? If yes, go to next step. If no, see DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK - ENGINE CONTROLS  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Turn OFF ignition. Disconnect PCM. Turn ON ignition, leaving engine OFF. Is MIL illuminated? If yes, go to next step. If yes, go to step  5 .
  3. Check for a short to ground in the MIL control circuit between PCM and IPC assembly. Repair as necessary. Was a repair necessary? If yes, go to step  6 . If no, go to next step.
  4. Replace PCM. Perform PCM relearn procedure. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE  under PROGRAMMING. After replacing PCM, go to next step.
  5. Start engine and observe MIL. Does the MIL turn OFF in about 1-2 seconds after engine is started? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step  2 .
  6. With scan tool, observe the stored information, Capture Info. Does scan tool display any DTCs that you have not diagnosed? If yes, see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  . If no, system is okay.
