Diagnostic Procedures
- Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Engine Controls? If yes, go to next step. If no, see DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK - ENGINE CONTROLS under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Turn OFF ignition. Disconnect PCM. Turn ON ignition, leaving engine OFF. Is MIL illuminated? If yes, go to next step. If yes, go to step 5 .
- Check for a short to ground in the MIL control circuit between PCM and IPC assembly. Repair as necessary. Was a repair necessary? If yes, go to step 6 . If no, go to next step.
- Replace PCM. Perform PCM relearn procedure. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE under PROGRAMMING. After replacing PCM, go to next step.
- Start engine and observe MIL. Does the MIL turn OFF in about 1-2 seconds after engine is started? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 2 .
- With scan tool, observe the stored information, Capture Info. Does scan tool display any DTCs that you have not diagnosed? If yes, see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If no, system is okay.
