DTC B2958: Security System Sensor Data Circuit High: Testing
- If vehicle theft deterrent diagnostic system test has been performed, go to next step. If vehicle theft deterrent diagnostic system test has not been performed, go to VEHICLE THEFT DETERRENT DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM TEST under SELF-DIAGNOSTICS.
- Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located at lower left side of instrument panel, near steering column. Momentarily turn ignition switch to START position (do not start engine) and release ignition switch to ON position. Using scan tool, observe PASSLOCK DATA VOLTAGE in BCM SECURITY DATA LIST. If voltage is not within .4-4.9 volts, go to next step. If voltage is within .4-4.9 volts, perform this procedure while wiggling related wiring and connectors. This can often cause malfunction to appear.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect Passlock(tm) sensor 3-pin harness connector. Passlock(tm) sensor is located in ignition lock cylinder. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, observe PASSLOCK DATA VOLTAGE in BCM SECURITY DATA LIST. If voltage is 4.9 volts or less, go to next step. If voltage is greater than 4.9 volts, go to step 9 .
- Turn ignition off. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between Passlock(tm) sensor harness connector Yellow wire terminal and Black wire terminal. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, observe PASSLOCK DATA VOLTAGE in BCM SECURITY DATA LIST. If voltage is less than 0.4 volt, go to next step. If voltage is 0.4 volt or more, go to step 7 .
- Disconnect fused jumper wire. Measure voltage between Passlock(tm) sensor harness connector White wire terminal and Black wire terminal. If voltage is less than 12 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 12 volts or more, go to step 9 .
- Check for open or high resistance at Passlock(tm) sensor harness connector White wire terminal. If problem is not found, go to step 9 . If problem is found, repair White wire between Passlock(tm) sensor and BCM as necessary. After repairs, go to step 13 .
- Check for short to voltage, high resistance or open at Passlock(tm) sensor harness connector Yellow wire terminal. If problem is not found, go to next step. If problem is found, repair Yellow wire between Passlock(tm) sensor and BCM as necessary. After repairs, go to step 13 .
- Check for high resistance or open at Passlock(tm) sensor harness connector Black wire terminal. If problem is not found, go to next step. If problem is found, repair Black wire between Passlock(tm) sensor and BCM as necessary. After repairs, go to step 13 .
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect BCM 24-pin Brown harness connector C3. BCM is located behind left side of instrument panel. Check for poor connections and loose or corroded terminals at BCM harness connector C3. If problem is not found, go to next step. If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step 13 .
- Replace and program BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. See BODY CONTROL MODULE PROGRAMMING/REGULAR PRODUCTION OPTION CONFIGURATION . After repairs, go to step 13 .
- Check for poor connections and loose or corroded terminals at Passlock(tm) sensor harness connector. If problem is not found, go to next step. If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step 13 .
- Replace Passlock(tm) sensor. See PASSLOCK(tm) LOCK CYLINDER/IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Program Passlock(tm) sensor. See PASSLOCK(tm) LEARN PROCEDURE under PROGRAMMING. After repairs, go to next step.
- Use scan tool to clear DTCs. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Momentarily turn ignition switch to START position (do not start engine) and release ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, select BCM DISPLAY DTCs function on scan tool. If DTC B2957 does not reset, go to next step. If DTC B2957 resets, go to step 3 .
- Attempt to start vehicle. If vehicle engine starts and runs, system is okay. If vehicle engine does not start and run, go to step 3 .
