Cruise Control Diagnostic System Check
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. See Figure . Turn ignition switch to RUN position, with engine off. If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, perform TEST F: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT POWER UP under SYSTEM TESTS.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position, with engine off. Try to establish scan tool communication with Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) and Powertrain Control Module (PCM). If communication with both modules is established, go to next step. If communication with both modules is not established, perform TEST E: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE under SYSTEM TESTS.
- If scan tool does not display any DTCs that begin with "U", go to next step. If scan tool displays any DTCs that begin with "U", perform TEST E: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE under SYSTEM TESTS.
- Using scan tool, select ABS CONTROL MODULE DISPLAY DTCS. If scan tool does not display any Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) DTCs, go to next step. If scan tool displays any ABS DTCs, perform appropriate test in accordance with DTC retrieved. See appropriate ANTI-LOCK article in BRAKES.
- Using scan tool, select PCM DISPLAY DTCS. If scan tool does not display any PCM DTCs, go to next step. If scan tool displays any PCM DTCs, perform appropriate test in accordance with DTC retrieved. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
- If scan tool displays any cruise control system DTCs, perform appropriate test in accordance with DTC retrieved. See appropriate CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEMS article. If scan tool does not display any cruise control system DTCs, repair cruise control system by symptom. See appropriate CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEMS article.
