Test B: Keyless Entry System Inoperative

  1. Review description and operation of keyless entry system, then go to next step. See DESCRIPTION & OPERATION  .
  2. Unlock and lock all doors using power door lock switch then use Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter. If power door lock switch operates door locks normally and RKE transmitter does not operate door locks normally, go to next step. If power door lock switch and RKE transmitter operate door locks properly, check for intermittent condition. See BODY CONTROL MODULES - TRACKER article.
  3. Program a known-good RKE transmitter into system and retest system. See TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING  under PROGRAMMING. If system does not operate properly, go to next step. If system operates properly, go to step  6 .
  4. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect Remote Control Door Lock Receiver (RCDLR) 16-pin harness connector. Measure resistance between ground and Data Link Connector (DLC) terminal No. 8 (Pink/White wire). If resistance is less than 2 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 2 ohms or more, go to step  7 .
  5. Repair open or short to ground in Pink/White wire between RCDLR and DLC. After repair, go to step  8 .
  6. Replace defective RKE transmitter. Program new RKE transmitter. See TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING  under PROGRAMMING, then go to step  8 .
  7. Replace RCDLR. See REMOTE CONTROL DOOR LOCK RECEIVER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Reprogram RKE transmitters. See TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING  under PROGRAMMING, then go to next step.
  8. Operate system to verify repair.
