Test A: Keyless Entry System Does Not Program

  1. If Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter programming has been performed, go to next step. If RKE transmitter programming has not been performed, perform RKE transmitter programming before proceeding. See TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING  under PROGRAMMING.
  2. Unlock and lock all doors using power door lock switch then use Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter. If power door lock switch operates door locks properly and RKE transmitter cannot be programmed, go to next step. If power door lock switch and RKE transmitter operate door locks properly, check for intermittent condition. See BODY CONTROL MODULES - TRACKER article.
  3. Program a known-good RKE transmitter into system and retest system. If system does not operate properly, go to next step. If system operates properly, go to step  6 .
  4. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect Remote Control Door Lock Receiver (RCDLR) 16-pin harness connector. Measure resistance between ground and Data Link Connector (DLC) terminal No. 8 (Pink/White wire). If resistance is less than 2 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 2 ohms or more, go to step  7 .
  5. Repair short to ground in Pink/White wire between RCDLR and DLC. After repair, go to step  8 .
  6. Replace defective RKE transmitter. Program new RKE transmitter. See TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING  under PROGRAMMING, then go to step  8 .
  7. Replace RCDLR. See REMOTE CONTROL DOOR LOCK RECEIVER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Reprogram RKE transmitters. See TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING  under PROGRAMMING, then go to next step.
  8. Operate system to verify repair.
