Test C: Engine Cranks Slowly
- Connect DVOM across battery terminals. Crank engine and observe voltage. If reading is 9.6 volts or more, go to next step. If reading is less than 9.6 volts, perform battery load test. Replace battery as necessary and retest operation. If battery tests okay, repair or replace starter and retest operation.
- Connect DVOM between negative battery terminal and engine block. Crank engine and observe voltage. If reading is less than 0.5 volt, go to next step. If reading is 0.5 volt or more, replace negative battery cable and retest operation.
- Connect DVOM between positive battery terminal and starter solenoid "S" terminal (Black wire). Crank engine and observe voltage. If reading is less than 0.5 volt, repair or replace starter. If reading is 0.5 volt or more, replace positive battery cable and retest operation.
- If battery, wiring, and engine are functioning properly, and engine continues to crank slowly, replace starter. See STARTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
