Cruise Control Diagnostic System Check
- Using a fused jumper wire, connect underhood Data Link Connector (DLC) terminals Tc and E1. Underhood DLC is located in left rear of engine compartment, mounted to strut tower. See Fig 1
. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If CRUISE indicator does not flash, go to next step. If CRUISE indicator flashes, go to step 8
.
- Depress cruise control switch to ON position. If CRUISE control indicator illuminates, go to next step. If CRUISE control indicator does not illuminate, diagnose cruise control indicator. See appropriate CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEMS article.
- Disconnect cruise control module 16-pin harness connector. Cruise control module is located under right side of instrument panel. Measure resistance in Pink/Black wire between underhood DLC terminal Tc and cruise control module harness connector terminal No. 5. See Fig 1
and Fig 2
. If resistance is less than 2 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 2 ohms or more, go to step 5
.
- Inspect cruise control module harness connector for signs of loose or intermittent contact with terminals. See PROBLEM DIAGNOSIS
under INTERMITTENTS. If concern still exists, go to step 6
. If concern was found and repaired, go to step 7
.
- Repair open in Pink/Black wire between DLC and cruise control module. See WIRING DIAGRAMS
. After repair, go to step 7
.
- Replace cruise control module. After repair, go to next step.
- Reconnect cruise control module harness connector. Using a fused jumper wire, connect underhood DLC terminals Tc and E1. See Fig 1
. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Note flash code pattern of CRUISE indicator. If CRUISE indicator does not flash rapidly, diagnose cruise control system by symptom. See appropriate CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEMS article. If CRUISE control indicator flashes DTCs, perform appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS
.
- Observe flash code pattern of CRUISE indicator. If CRUISE indicator does not flash rapidly, diagnose cruise control system by symptom. See appropriate CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEMS article. If CRUISE control indicator flashes DTCs, go to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS
