Anti-Lock Brake Diagnostic System Check

  1. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Install scan tool. If scan tool does not receive data from EBCM, go to next step. If scan tool receives data from EBCM, go to step  3 .
  2. Check if scan tool is communicating with other modules on serial data line. If scan tool is communicating, go to TEST C: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH ELECTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL MODULE  under SYMPTOM TESTS. If scan tool is not communicating, problem is in data link connector circuit. See DATA LINK CONNECTORS article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
  3. Check for stored DTCs. Check for DTC history. If DTCs are found, go to appropriate test for DTC retrieved. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  . If no DTCs are found, go to next step.
  4. Turn ignition switch to LOCK, then RUN position. If indicator illuminates for several seconds and then turns off, go to step  6 . If indicator does not come on and then go off, go to next step.
  5. If ABS indicator comes on and stays on, diagnose ABS indicator. See ANTI-LOCK - ABS-VI - METRO article in BRAKES. If indicator does not come on and stay on, diagnose ABS indicator. See ANTI-LOCK - ABS-VI - METRO article in BRAKES.
  6. Recheck for historical DTCs. If any DTCs exist, go to next step. If no DTCs exist, system is operating normally.
  7. Drive vehicle to speed greater than 15 MPH for several minutes while checking for DTCs. If history DTC is set as a current DTC, diagnose DTC retrieved. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  . If DTC is not set, system is okay.
