DTC B2958: Security System Sensor Data Circuit High: Testing

  1. If theft deterrent system diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If theft deterrent system diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). See Figure . DLC is located under left side of instrument panel. Momentarily turn ignition switch to START position and then release to ON position, but do not start vehicle. Using scan tool, select BCM SECURITY DATA LIST. Observe PASSLOCK(R) DATA VOLTAGE. If scan tool does not display .4-4.9 volts, go to next step. If scan tool displays .4-4.9 volts, go to DIAGNOSTIC AIDS  .
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect Black 3-pin Passlock(R) lock cylinder harness connector. Passlock(R) lock cylinder is located to right of instrument cluster on instrument panel. It may be necessary to remove instrument cluster for access to Passlock(R) lock cylinder harness connector. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using scan tool, observe PASSLOCK(R) DATA VOLTAGE. If scan tool displays more than 4.9 volts, go to next step. If scan tool displays 4.9 volts or less, go to step  9 .
  4. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect 3-amp fused jumper wire between Passlock(R) lock cylinder harness connector terminals "A" (Yellow wire) and "B" (Black wire). See Figure . Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using scan tool, observe PASSLOCK(R) DATA VOLTAGE. If scan tool displays less than .4 volts, go to next step. If scan tool displays .4 volts or more, go to step  7 .
  5. Disconnect fused jumper wire. Measure voltage between Passlock(R) lock cylinder harness connector terminals "C" (White wire) and "B" (Black wire). If less than 12 volts exist, go to next step. If 12 volts or more exist, go to step  11 .
  6. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect Pink 24-pin Body Control Module (BCM) harness connector C3. BCM is located under right side of instrument panel. See Figure . Check for open or high resistance in White wire between BCM harness connector C3 terminal B4 and Passlock(R) lock cylinder harness connector terminal "C". See Figure . If a problem does not exist, go to step  9 . If a problem exists, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  13 .
  7. Disconnect Gray 24-pin Body Control Module (BCM) harness connector C2. BCM is located under right side of instrument panel. See Figure . Check for open, high resistance or short to voltage in Yellow wire between BCM harness connector C2 terminal B6 and Passlock(R) lock cylinder harness connector terminal "A". See Figure and Figure . If a problem does not exist, go to next step. If a problem exists, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  13 .
  8. Check for open or high resistance in Black wire between BCM harness connector C2 terminal A6 and Passlock(R) lock cylinder harness connector terminal "B". If a problem does not exist, go to next step. If a problem exists, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  13 .
  9. Check BCM harness connectors for poor connections or damaged terminals. If no problem exists, go to next step. If a problem exists, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  13 .
  10. Replace and program BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to step  13 .
  11. Check Passlock(R) lock cylinder harness connector for poor connections or damaged terminals. If a problem does not exist, go to next step. If a problem exists, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  13 .
  12. Replace Passlock(R) lock cylinder. See PASSLOCK(R) LOCK CYLINDER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Perform reprogramming procedure. See THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM  under PROGRAMMING.
  13. Reconnect all disconnected components and connectors. Clear DTCs. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Momentarily turn ignition switch to START position and then release to ON position, but do not start vehicle. Using scan tool, select BCM DISPLAY DTCS. If DTC resets, go to step  3 . If DTC does not reset, go to next step.
  14. Attempt to start vehicle. If vehicle starts and runs, system is okay. If vehicle does not start and run, go to step  3 .
