  2. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). See Figure . DLC is located under left side of instrument panel. Momentarily turn ignition switch to START position and then release, but do not start vehicle. Using scan tool, select BCM SECURITY DATA LIST. Observe PASSLOCK(R) DATA VOLTAGE. If scan tool does not display .4-4.9 volts, go to next step. If scan tool displays .4-4.9 volts, go to DIAGNOSTIC AIDS  .
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect Black 3-pin Passlock(R) lock cylinder harness connector. Passlock(R) lock cylinder is located to right of instrument cluster on instrument panel. It may be necessary to remove instrument cluster for access to Passlock(R) lock cylinder harness connector. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using scan tool, observe PASSLOCK(R) DATA VOLTAGE. If scan tool displays 4.9 volts or less, go to next step. If scan tool displays more than 4.9 volts, go to step  7 .
  4. Check wiring between Passlock(R) lock cylinder harness connector and Body Control Module (BCM) harness connectors for being shorted to ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If a problem does not exist, go to next step. If a problem exists, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  9 .
  5. Check BCM harness connectors for poor connections or damaged terminals. If a problem does not exist, go to next step. If a problem exists, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  9 .
  6. Replace and program BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to step  9 .
  7. Check Passlock(R) lock cylinder harness connector for poor connections or damaged terminals. If a problem does not exist, go to next step. If a problem exists, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  9 .
  8. Replace Passlock(R) lock cylinder. See PASSLOCK(R) LOCK CYLINDER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Perform reprogramming procedure. See THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM  under PROGRAMMING. After repairs, go to next step.
