Test E: Security Indicator Inoperative

  1. Perform anti-theft system diagnostic system check. See ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If anti-theft system diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Observe SECURITY indicator in instrument cluster massage center. If SECURITY indicator is illuminated during bulb check, check for intermittent problem. See DIAGNOSING INTERMITTENTS  . Repair or replace as necessary and go to step  4 . If SECURITY indicator is not illuminated during bulb check, go to next step.
  3. Replace instrument panel cluster. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS - IMPALA & MONTE CARLO article. After repair, go to next step.
  4. Operate system to verify repair. If system operates normally, repair is complete. If system does not operate normally, return to step  2 .
